Driver Rehabilitation
Driver evaluations are appropriate for anyone who has a medical condition that may affect his/her ability to drive. Sometimes, a driver has a medical condition where there may be questions about their driving ability. Young drivers who have never been licensed may wish to see if they have the potential to become a driver in the presence of their medical condition. Driver evaluations are indicated for persons with:
Driving evaluations are very comprehensive. An evaluation takes 2 to 3 hours to complete. It is made up of three parts – in-clinic testing, on-road evaluation and a feedback session.
When appropriate, driver training is recommended. Clients learn to drive safely using adaptive equipment or adaptive strategies. If the client has no driving experience, our instructor will provide training so that the student will acquire the foundation skills for safe driving. For persons with anxiety related to driving following a motor vehicle accident, a program is tailored to his/her individual needs so that there is a gradual and progressive exposure to anxiety provoking environments yet allowing for skill building and empowerment.
